Our Favorite Walk

Hiking is very popular in the mountains and natural areas around Mijas, and options abound. This can vary from well-marked and easy, to very rustic and challenging. Over the course of years, we have decided that the hike up the the Antena Mirador is our favourite walk - combining a very healthy workout with ever-changing views of Mijas, the coast at Fuengirola, and by the time you reach the top, the coast at the Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmadena, the bay at Málaga, the airport, and on clear days, the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains behind Granada as well as Gibraltar.

This hike is just over 4.5 km and features a steady grade increase.

The views are important here - it will take your mind off the fact that this walk includes a steady incline. Near the top, you’ll find a path that leads to a point that reaches 1,000 meters above sea level. Over the course of around 4.5 kilometer, you will also realize an increase in elevate of over half a kilometer. The positive tradeoff to this hike is that the path is paved - it’s the access road for workers to reach the antennas at the summit. The paved road also makes it a favorite training ground for competitive biking, so be sure to keep to the sides of the road or risk being run over by a bicyclist returning back from their ride up to the top!

The walk back down is a bit easier!

You can get here from Mijas village by walking east from the BP Petrol Station. You will find the access to the service road just past the municipal swimming pool and football stadium. If you drive, you’ll be able to park at the bottom and walk to the top. If you’re more interested in the view than the hike, you can also drive to the top. The road is narrow, so take care on your way - whether walking or driving!
